Auction #200 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1186 in auction 200
Item Description
Lot of 2. First is an actual diary with leatherette covering and metal lock but missing key. Front features Trylon and Perisphere. Scattered edge wear. Fine. Second item is exceptionally interesting and the first we’ve seen in our 44 years. 5.5x7” slightly textured paper folder with title “New York World’s Fair 1939/Unlock The World Of Tomorrow.” Front features image of Trylon and Perisphere and at center is a metal attachment of simulated lock. Attached to folder by orange/blue string is a die-cut cardboard key that fits into slot on front along one edge of the lock. Opens to total size of 16x21” and features 15 different images from the Fair which includes different buildings, attractions and panorama view. Featured are Administration Building, Aviation Building, Parachute Jump, Interior of Perisphere, Hall of Music, etc. Designed to be mailed as folded although unused. Address area not filled in. Back does note manufacturer “Madison Publishing Co. NYC.” Slightest trace of aging but Exc. including the fragile cardboard key which is quite susceptible to wear and damage because of the folder’s design and its intended use, resulting in the items rarity, especially in this condition.
