Item Description
10.5” long with 14” wingspan and height of 3.25”. Tin litho. c. 1934 and produced a few years after Tipp & Co. of Germany made the holy grail of Mickey toys, the Mickey and Minnie motorcycle wind-up. Resembles a Messerschmitt BF-110 “Wolf” twin prop fighter. Wings and body are detailed with Luftwaffe markings as well as the numbers “52/24.” Vertical stabilizers on tail have swastikas as well as celluloid extension pieces (one of these is cracked and put back on with clear tape, the other has a crack but remains firmly intact). One of the two tin propellers is an expertly crafted replacement near perfect match to the original. The highlight of the toy is small .5” tall full figure image of Mickey done as nose art on both sides of the plane. This is part of the lithography along with other details including cockpit and camouflage paint. Comes with a key and works. Moves forward as propellers rotate. Top of the fuselage directly behind the cockpit has 1/16” hole most likely as made and for placement of string to suspend the toy. Underside of wings have small scattered traces of oxidation. Body of the plane has small scattered trace of paint wear with some nicks and scratches but much blends with the darker nature of the plane’s paint. Overall Fine. In our opinion, actually rarer than the Mickey motorcycle toy (based on number known of each toy) and this is the only example we’ve offered in our 44 years.
