Item Description
5.5x8” stiff paper folder with promotional text on front cover and inside top flap. Top flap has pair of tiny pin holes and minor corner crease. Interior of folder holds 5 separate Roy Rogers premiums from the 1953 era. Two of these are 1-1/8” litho buttons picturing “Roy Rogers King Of The Cowboys” and “Dale Evans Queen Of The West.” The 1-1/8” Roy Rogers button was used as described in item #1387 and completed the set offered as item #1390. The third button here also reads “Roy Rogers King Of The Cowboys” but this is a 1-5/8” litho and was used to complete the USA version of the 15 different smaller buttons given with Post’s Grape-Nuts Flakes. Folder holds 2 additional items. The first is 2-1/8” tall silver luster embossed tin star reading “Roy Rogers Deputy.” This was used as a premium by various companies but much more frequently seen in a copper or brass luster rather than this Mint silver luster. The fifth item here is one we’ve never seen before. It is a 1.5” tall aluminum piece designed as a horseshoe reading around the edge “Be Good And Lucky” while at center beneath 4-leaf clover is Roy’s portrait with text “Sincerely Roy Rogers.” This is held by a small piece of tape to the folder. Back of the piece has large image of Trigger with “RR” initials and the name “Trigger” below his portrait with surrounding text “Keep This Lucky Trigger Shoe.” Mint and the only example we’ve seen. Most likely done as a prototype and never put into production. Couple of tiny edge dots of paint wear on the 2 Roy buttons and the printing on the Dale button leaves a bit to be desired although Mint as issued. A rare folder with 2 particularly rare items.
