Item Description
3.5” dia. by Elwar Ltd. ©Universal Pictures Inc. Partial copyright is visible on curl. c. 1965. This is the first version featuring a stylized image which clearly represents Bela Lugosi’s portrayal of Count Dracula. This version of button saw extremely limited distribution due to a trademark infringement claim made by Lugosi’s son shortly after the button appeared. The design was ultimately changed, featuring the more common design showing an altered face, 2 visible hands instead of 1, Dracula with white bow tie instead of red medallion and differing “Dracula” typeface. Also, this Lugosi version sports bloody fangs whereas the second version shows fangs without blood. Button has scattered wear and hairline scratches to cello with 1/8” spot of discoloration on “Dracula” name, smaller spot at bottom center edge. Fine+. Scarce. We have previously sold this variety for as much as $356.
