Item Description
Vintage wood frame is 14.25x18.25” with glass over 11.5x15.5” image area. Large albumin photo is mounted to thicker cardboard with text panel above and below a list of 115 names with numbers that match tiny numbers by each photo. Photo center shows “J.M. Stone, Governor” and “Portal of Capitol State Of Mississippi.” Seven lines of bold text at top read “Historic Pictorial Group/Of The/Members Of The Legislature/1880 State Of Mississippi, 1880/Photographed And Combined By/Seutter/The Jeweler And Artist Of Jackson, Miss.” Image area, primarily the photo itself, has all-over tiny dots of tan foxing but not very dark and all details remain clear. Name area at bottom has a small gouge in cardboard partially over names #24-28 plus small hole in cardboard that removed numerals 31 through 34. While showing some age, still a very appealing image and relic from a southern state for which we’ve seen precious little material in this post-Civil War era. From the Morry Greener Collection.
