Item Description
2.5x2.75x2.25” tall wood outhouse. Textured leatherette roof with text. Wood stovepipe appears on opposite side of roof. Outhouse is single block of wood with a .5x1.5” stiff paper door on each end. Door is attached to inserted matchbox ends 2.25” long. Above each door reads “Men/Women.” The bottom center of the outhouse has the exposed outer matchbox intended to be used as striker for the enclosed matches (striker worn off). Interesting to note that the W.P.A. was funded by congress with passage of “The Emergency Relief Appropriation Act Of 1935.” adding to the meaning of the text seen on the roof. This is of course a joke on the use of a match to help dissipate unwanted odors encountered during outhouse usage. Roof shows handling wear along edges, but remains intact. Much scarcer than the wood novelty outhouses which have a skeleton of a WPA worker inside. A great design. First we’ve seen. VF.
