Item Description
Scottie was a very popular breed in the 1930s. An early Christmas gift from Mrs. Augustus Kelly of Westport, CT, Fala moved into the White House November 10, 1940 and traveled with FDR often to Hyde Park and Warm Springs. Fala’s original full name given by FDR for a Scottish ancestor was: Murray The Outlaw Of Falahill. These six pieces from the 1930s-1940s era are: #1 – 1x3x2.25” tall wood figure with inset metal lighter. Cap has band of typed paper that reads “Vote (FDR) In 1932” but this was added later. Fine. #2 – 3.25” tall bronzed white metal figure. Fine. #3 – 2.75x5.25x2.5” tall metal figure on base with working thermometer. Cello cover on thermometer has yellowed. Thermometer works. Paint chips visible on base and Fala’s back. Fine. #4 – 2.75x6x5.25” tall plaster figure. Scattered rubs/aging. Good. #5 – 5.25x6” tall tie rack with 3 Scotties. Foil sticker on back reads “Swank/Made In USA.” Holed on each side as made. Made of composition and likely manufactured by Syroco. Metal tie rack shows light oxidation. One eyebrow off of one white Scottie. Still displays Fine. Last is 8.5x7” tall single Scottie. Also made of Syroco-like composition. Metal has very minor oxidation. Holed as made. Nicely detailed portrait of Scottie. Fine.
