Item Description
Oval ferrotype set into a brass frame with raised oval featuring a fine twisted brass wire accent around. The piece stands 7/8” tall. This unlisted item is similar to DeWitt/Sullivan AL1860-114 and 114A, however, this is what DeWitt calls Lincoln Portrait #2 (not #1 or #3) and his name is not printed above his image. The item is shown as Hake #3048 with a 2004 Revised Price value of $1,200. The portrait of Lincoln is extremely bold with just 2 flaws. There is a pinpoint dot off his cheek at the right barely visible. Also, on the right side, is a 1/16” circle of missing emulsion. On the reverse the hinged horizontal bar pin has a trivial bend to it but functions perfectly. Nice brass tone on the frame. A VF unlisted rarity.
