Item Description
This classic 1896 large shell badge designed like a coin has the slogan on a large brass plate “An Honest Dollar” held by links above and below to a large spread-winged eagle hanger and a 6” embossed brass shell medallion with portrait and text “Wm. McKinley For President.” The reverse has its original cardboard insert with beautiful typography on cardboard reading on the top 9 lines “The ‘Hoorah’ Campaign Procession Badge/Manufactured By Jas. Murdock Jr./Stamp Cutter, Engraver, & Die Sinker/Cincinnati, O./’Our Standard Bearer’s’.” Text below has several statements taken from McKinley’s letter of acceptance. Cardboard is uniformly tanned all over and at bottom is a 1”square area of missing text due to a sticker once applied there. On the front of the piece brass is slightly pressed in on McKinley’s cheek and shoulder but much less flattening than is typically seen on this beautifully constructed embossed brass shell. A great centerpiece for a McKinley display. Beautiful, N. Mint luster.
