Item Description
2” litho for convention “July 2-5/1937/Milwaukee, Wis.” Paint has some very fine white craze lines and extreme left edge is very slightly flattened. Button remains quite clean and generally in Fine condition. This group for American youth was formed in 1935 and apparently held annual conventions as we have seen one other version which includes the rank of “Representative.” Eleanor Roosevelt supported the group, although in 1939 the Dies Committee subpoenaed its leaders, who were associated with the Young Communist League. Mrs. Roosevelt attended those hearings and then invited the witnesses to board at the White House. During one convention, some convention attendees joined Mrs. Roosevelt for a picnic on the White House lawn. This is the only example of the button we know of.
