Item Description
7.25x10.25” hardcover of “The Life Story Of Herman Brix – Bruce Bennett” by Mike Chapman with a foreward by Danton Burroughs. 126-page book published by Culture House Books ©2001. Title page has been signed in blue felt tip pen “Herman Brix - Bruce Bennett.” Brix (who also went by the stage name of Bruce Bennett) was a 1928 Olympics Silver Medalist and went on to play Tarzan in 1935 for the 12-chapter serial “The New Adventures Of Tarzan.” Film was produced by Burroughs-Tarzan Enterprises, a film company whose chief business would be to promote Burroughs’ work. MGM, main distributor of Tarzan films, campaigned against this company, harshly blocking distribution of “New Adventures Of Tarzan” in favor of their upcoming serial of the same name. A bit of strong-arming involved them threatening theaters that showed this serial not being allowed to show the third MGM Tarzan film and almost every big theater chose to wait for the MGM film, not showing Brix’s turn as Tarzan. Original dust jacket has bw photo of Brix as Tarzan and is Exc. Book itself is N. Mint with Exc. signature area. Comes with Hake’s COA.
