Item Description
9.5x11.5” hardcover typed script for 1970 Grammy Award Show. The Grammy Awards ceremonies weren’t televised in the 1960s, the awards being handed out with a later TV special being broadcast out of the title “The Best On Record” on NBC. The 1970 ceremony was for recorded music released in 1969. For this year, the awards were announced in Apr. with the exception of Record of the Year which announced by Sammy Davis Jr. on the telecast. Davis had taped an announcement for each of the 5 nominees to keep the winner a secret. “Aquarius - Let The Sunshine In” by The Fifth Dimension won. Inside first page shows performers Blood, Sweat & Tears, Johnny Cash, Bill Cosby, Fifth Dimension, Dionne Warwick, The Isley Brothers and others as well as presenters Bob Newhart, Sonny & Cher, Glen Campbell, Dom DeLuise, Sammy Davis, Burt Bacharach and others. Second page lists George Schlatter of Laugh-In fame as producer. Script states this is first draft and is dated Apr. 8, 1970. Personal copy of Joseph Natalie as noted on front cover. Pages show varying degrees of wear and are Fine-VF overall. Cloth-bound hardcover with Mod design shows aging and dust soiling. VF.
