3-7/8x5-7/8” c. 1880s. Printed by Chicago Lift & Eng. For H. Sears & Son Cutlery. Two-panel scene shows smiling black man with pocket knife in first panel and then having cut off his head in second panel. Text reads “This darkey never was before so happy in his life. He bought a Henry Sears & Son well known new pocket knife. Then homeward hied with gleesome pride, with joy almost exploded. The knife shut up, his head dropped off, he didn’t know twas loaded.” Reverse side has nice silhouette art ad for straight razor “The Queen.” Top of card is missing 2 tiny corner tips. Blank area in center near bottom is missing tiny bit of paper. Overall VG. A very rare trade card. Well drawn with great graphics.
