Item Description
c. 1940s. 14x21.75” carboard has graphics near center of bearded man and other player with ball and text at left “Whiskered.” Issued for game held Sunday, Jan. 25th at Portland, CT. Printed by Posters Inc., Philadelphia PA. The Israelite House of David is recognized in sports circles for their touring baseball teams whose players wore their hair and beards long. In the Winter, they turned to basketball. They fielded some good teams in the first half of the 20th century. The House of David was invited to participate in the World Professional Basketball Tournament in 1939 and 1940. They served as the opponent for the Harlem Globetrotters during their 1954 tour of Europe and ceased to field a team after that tour. Lt. aging but displays Exc. as shrink-wrapped.
