Item Description
2.25x4.5x1” deep thin cardboard box has hinged lid with specialty art of Smitty showing his watch to Herby saying “Ain’t My New Wrist Watch A Peach, Herby?” Herby answers “Thay, I Bet Yer Have A Thwell Time Now, Thmitty.” Art is signed at lower right by cartoonist creator Berndt. Side panels have character art including Smitty, Herby, their dog and Smitty’s boss Mr. Bailey. Inside lid has text “The Smitty Watch A Real American Watch For The Real American Boy Guaranteed Time Keeper O.K’d By Smitty Licensed By Paul R. Gruen, Inc. Watch Division The New Haven Clock Company.” Box is complete with insert and has warranty paper. Lt. wear and dust soiling but color is deep and rich. Box tight and Fine. Watch has 1.5” long chrome luster case with full figure image of smiling Smitty on dial. Original band is worn. VG. Crystal has yellowed and has .25" scratch on right side, not offensive. Dial, also signed by "Smitty" creator Berndt, has some pinpoint marks only noticeable upon close inspection but overall clean and VF. Ticks a few seconds and can be wound but would benefit from a professional cleaning. One of the rarest character watches and with extremely rare box. First we’ve offered with box in our 44+ years.
