Item Description
1.5” button featuring black cat at center of orange flag surrounded by text “Follow The Flag Of Hoo-Hoo/Concatenation/Muscatine, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1916.” Tiny rub mark on backpaper by Steiner Engraving of St. Louis. This button was issued by a group established in 1892 and formally named International Concatenated Order Of Hoo-Hoo, Inc. which was formed as a fraternal and service organization by members involved in the forest products industry. Some names for their officers were inspired by Lewis Carroll’s The Hunting Of The Snark, for example, their chief executive is referred to as Snark of the Universe. The black cat’s tail forms a figure 9. Couple of tiny surface marks show only in reflected light. Displays Mint. Only example we’ve seen of any kind for this group.
