Item Description
1.25” with name of Australian maker on the curl A.W. Patrick. Button shows photographic long column of marching soldiers in the foreground with a sunburst inscribed “Victory” at the right, all dominated by a photo of Kitchener with his hand raised. The slogan on the button indicates its memorial nature and reads “And His Soul Goes Marching On.” Kitchener achieved fame in 1898 Sudan and during the second Boer War. He played a central role in the early years of WWI and was the subject of the classic military recruiting poster showing him pointing at viewer and with the slogan “Your Country Needs You.” He died June 5, 1916. Cello has trivial 1/8” split by the covered tin reverse but the front is Exc. and displays essentially Mint. Only example we’ve seen. From the Morry Greener Collection.
