Auction #201 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1408 in auction 201
Item Description
Heavy die-cut silver luster badge 1-13/16” tall by 2-3/8” wide. Top of badge has inscription which includes three-letter abbreviation for the word “North” along with the word “Africa” set against fluted panels with rwb enamel paint. Below this is a symbolic “V” for victory and attached to the arms of the V are American and British flags. Below is a hand-like symbol flanked by the inscription “8 Nov 1942.” This is the date of the Anglo-American invasion of Northwest Africa. Reverse of the piece has horizontal bar pin and stamped-in word “Depose” which is French for “Registered.” There is a tiny 1/8” hairline over 2 stripes of the American flag which is in the casting. There are a couple of other similar casting tiny lines on the reverse. The item seems to be of the era of this major WWII invasion and is the only example we’ve seen. N. Mint as made and Rare.
