Item Description
15/16” tall enamel on brass lapel stud with threaded post and cap reverse. The item at top has white “E” standing for Excellence and with the text reading “E For Production/United States Navy/Bureau Of Ordinance/Triumph Explosives Inc.” These awards were given to the Boom-Boom Girls and all employees of the Triumph Explosives firm of Elkton, Md. in recognition of their contributions to the war effort. The award was made Feb. 2, 1945 as documented by a letter from the Navy Department to the president of business. The Boom-Boom Girls and other workers constantly risked their lives producing ammunition and the plant was subject to at least 5 fatal explosions between 1942 and 1943. Item is essentially Mint as made. Also see Remington WWII button pair #635-636.
