Item Description
Both books are 9x12” with 16 pages. Mickey book is the first licensed Disney publication. By Bibo & Lang ©1930. This is a second to fourth printing, these printings are indistinguishable from one another. However, we know it is not a first printing as there are Win Smith Mickey daily strips on page 8 and back cover, the words “Printed In U.S.A.” on the front cover and age of Bobbette Bibo specified on the title page. Typically found with pages 9-10 removed but this complete copy has these pages intact. Featured on page 9 are “Mickey Mouse Pawns,” cut-outs to be used with “Mickey Mouse Journey” gameboard that appears on page 7. The rest of the book features a Mickey Mouse story of how he met Walt and got his name, music for song “Mickey Mouse You Cute Little Feller,” nice illustrations throughout including 2 which are full page. Book shows all over wear and aging. This includes 4” split at spine, some scattered degrees of aging/tanning, .25x1” dark moisture stain at top left corner tip of entire copy. Cover Good. Contents have some corner creases and aging but VG. Still a solid, complete copy of this classic Disney book. Overstreet value in Good = $1050. This lot also includes Aesop’s book ©1931 Sonnet Publishing Co. Features character “Milton Mouse,” a near dead-ringer for Mickey Mouse. Disney took legal action against the Van Buren Corporation for plagiarizing Mickey. Similar style book to the one by Bibo including stories with illustrations, song “Aesop And His Funny Fables” plus a cut-out activity page which has been removed and is not included. Book itself is well-worn, cover is split and loose and noticeably aged. Just comes along but an interesting companion to the Bibo book for multiple reasons. The book itself is quite rare and we have only seen a couple of copies in our 44 years.
