This 1.25” with name of maker on curl “Economy Novelty Co. NYC” is the rarest from a set of 5 different character buttons issued in 1939. Each button has a serial number at the top with this one reading “554.” Buttons were likely used in conjunction with a contest with some type of prizes to be awarded based on selected numbers. Button has just the most trifle trace of darkening to the orange next to the “z” of “Oz” and along a section of the extreme left edge. Button still displays beautifully and with full gloss. We’ve seen about 5 in total. Rare and a key button for the Oz collector.
