Item Description
1.25” button c. 1905 with Baltimore Badge backpaper. Tiny age on the backpaper and very st. trace of staining around the collet although front has just a few small marks scattered at 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock and a trifle showing along the far left edge. Button was issued to promote newspaper comic strip and while art is unsigned, we believe it is by W.W. Denslow, noted for his Oz illustrations, as a hardcover Billy Bounce book exists crediting Denslow as both author and illustrator. Among the earliest Sunday comics promotional buttons. About our 4th seen over the decades. Nice gloss and gorgeous color.
