Item Description
This 1932 premium was made by Gem Clay Forming Co. for distribution by both sponsors of the Tarzan radio show and others. The stage bkg. has imprint on reverse for issuer Foulds Milling Co. This is the complete basic set of 10 (12 figures in all) consisting of Tarzan w/Cheetah, Kala the Mother Ape, Numa the Lion, Sheeta the Panther, Jane Porter, The Pirate, The Witch Doctor, The Cannibal, Lt. D'Arnot, three little monkeys (counted as a single item). The stage consists of three cardboard pieces. The main stage bkg. section is original and 8x19.5", the marquee sign and accent tree leaf sections which are 4x13.5" and 1x13" respectively are full color photocopy replacements mounted on cardboard. The original bkg. section is very nicely illustrated depicting jungle scene w/tropical bird, monkey and a hut which has diecut door that opens. Reverse has assembly instructions, list of the statue set and notes they were available w/three direction panels from Foulds packages. Reverse has penciled date on top margin. Has overall scattered lt. creases, left margin has pair of 1x1.5" spots of missing surface paper. Most of the crease lines are really only visible in reflected light, all color remains strong. VG. The photocopy of the marquee sign reading "Tarzan In Jungle Land" does not include cardboard tab needed to attach it to the bkg. but still could be assembled for display purposes. Following this basic set, six additional statues were issued. Smallest plaster statue is 1" tall while the tallest is 4.5". One of the three monkeys remains unpainted except for black pupils, Cannibal only has partially painted body and shield. All others have been nicely painted and glazed. Set is Exc. The stage is scarce and this is the most complete set we've ever offered.
