Item Description
3.5x7.5". Double sided. Multicolor. Edged in white and made of linen. There is one hairline separation. On the text side this runs from above the "N" of "Union" to above the second "T" of "Ticket." The length is 2" and the split ends well away from left and right margins. The hairline barely shows and the rest of the fabric is extremely clean w/just the most subtle traces of very minor tanning. Front side lists Lincoln and Johnson for their respective offices and below are names and cities of five "Presidential Electors" plus text below flag image "For Member Of Congress/First District/Donald C. Mc Ruer/Of/San Fransisco." The opposite side, with blue and white sky and ocean shows historic June 19, 1864 naval battle off Cherbourg, France of the Confederate Raider CSS Alabama and the USS Kearsarge which was victorious. Ship names appear on pennants flying from their masts plus image at middle of scene of British observer yacht Deerhound which rescued most of the Alabama crew as it sank. Text on this side in red reads "J.T. Jones (issuer or printer?) San Fransisco November 8th, 1864." The example shown as Hake/Lincoln #3042 is a paper version. This fabric version is first we've seen. Rare.
