Item Description
Parker Brothers earlier version c.1930. 13.25x17.25x1.5" deep thick cardboard box has choice lid graphics of Admiral Byrd wearing fur-collared coat and aviation hat talking through microphone saying “Hello America”. Upper left has radio waves directed towards city skyline, right side has amphibious plane and lower right has ship on ice with dogsled in foreground and lower left has penguins. Lid has some wear around edges with some surface paper missing along seams, lower right side of top has a few tanned spots, inside is reinforced around three sides with paper tape. Left side panel has 1" vertical tear in center. Box bottom has edge tears repaired on inside with paper tape. Box overall VG but lid graphics display Fine. Die-cut insert has great graphics with map of the South Pole with images of birds flying in blizzard area, Little America base with radio towers, and Penguin Village. Contents include three die-cut cardboard microphones, each 2.75" diameter numbered 1 to 5 with metal spinner on top of each. Each is attached to 5.5" tall wood stick with different colored cord attached to bottom of each with wooden peg on bottom. Also includes three separate small wood playing pieces. Object of game is to insert peg at bottom of microphone into die-cut holes at “New Zealand”, spin the spinner and start out for Admiral Byrd’s Little America base. As players reach their destination they announce their safe arrival and then continue on to South Pole. The first player to reach the South Pole by exact count wins. Directions folder has a few lt. creases and lt. dust soil. Fine. Insert platform and microphones are Exc. Wonderful game based on Admiral Byrd’s historic trip.
