Item Description
1930s. 7" wide 10" tall overall with original gold painted finish has wonderful image of smiling bellhop carrying suit in left hand and Michaels-Stern suitcase in right hand with dish at bottom for display in department stores, most likely as card holder. Bellhop has "M.S." initials on his hat. Trace of lt. scattered wear, most noticeable at right side of base. Has Fine/VF appearance overall. Highly detailed. Wonderful display item. Michaels-Stern and Company was a Rochester, New York-based manufacturer of mens' tailored suits and apparel. The company was founded in 1849 by Henry Michaels and became known as Michaels-Stern when Henry Michaels's son in-law, Morley Stern joined as a partner in 1877. The company was liquidated in 1977.
