c.1930s. 10.5x16 3/8x2.5" deep dove-tailed box has nice art image on lid of smiling blonde-headed boy wearing shirt and tie with head resting on hand. Lower left has incised text “Approved by Billy”. Box is missing front clasp and one rear hinge, with trace of lt. surface wear. Overall Fine/VF. Nicely designed. Billy and Ruth were fictional stars in annual pre-Christmas toy catalogs published for retailers to mail to customers as early as 1936 and continued into the late 1950's. Well made and nicely detailed.
