Item Description
6-3/8x9-11/16" with 108 pages published by Richard K. Fox New York City.  This is the revised and enlarge 1891 version of book originally published in 1883.  Front cover has nice engraving of Sullivan titled "Ex-Champion Pugilist Of The World" and book includes many images of Sullivan along with nice engravings of other famous boxers including James J. Corbett, Joe Choynski, Joe Lannon, Charley Mitchell, Ed Smith, Joe McAuliffe, Mike Conley, Frank P. Slavin and black boxers George Godfrey and Peter Jackson.  Illustrations appear not to be part of the page count and book has many more double illustrations of various Sullivan fights.  Richard Fox published the Police Gazette and book has many promo ads for their publications including one titled "Lifes And Battles Of Famous Black Pugilists" showing bare-knuckled black boxer in ring.  One page has image of Police Gazette Heavyweight Championship belt and another page has image of Fox himself.  Pages 61-64 are loose but here.  Softcover book has been professionally rebound with name John L. Sullivan stamped in gold on spine.  Inside cover is VG/Fine and contents are Fine or better.  Rare.  Extremely well done and historical.  From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
