Item Description
Licensed by King Features Syndicate 1935. Box lid has nice graphics of Popeye as aviator flying in open cockpit plane named “Spinachovia” and looking down at train which has Olive Oyl hanging out of window yelling at him followed by Swee’Pea and Wimpy in other windows. Side panels feature art of Popeye punching villain as Olive Oyl, Wimpy and Sappo look on. Box has trace of lt. dust soil, one side panel has a few blue ink color rubs at left side. Lower right corner seam of top has 1.25" split. Fine. Tin litho toy is complete with built-in key. Popeye is seen in the plane which circles overhead when attached to center post of “Popeye’s Blow Me Down Airport”. Die-cut cardboard insert on toy base has nice graphics with Olive Oyl, Swee’Pea, Wimpy and a barking dog chasing a motorcycle policeman with a ticket in his hand. Train circles around the outer ring of the base. Each train car roof has the name of one of the characters-Wimpy, Sappo, Olive Oyl and Swee’Pea with a lithographed head of the figure hanging out of window. Wimpy and cook Ham Gravy are shown on tunnels that read “Hamburgers” on top along with anchor image. Toy is complete with 4.25x6 3/8" instruction sheet which has a few lt. handling creases and is lightly tanned but overall Fine. Toy shows very little wear and is overall VF/Exc w/ bright color and great design. Scarce with box. Superb display item.
