Item Description
This unusual size button is 2.75" and its back is covered in tin with a slot holding a bar pin. There is no maker's name. Design of the button in addition to the English text includes Japanese characters. Right center say Tokyo, left center says Japan, and text across chest is likely MacArthur. There is some light tan age stain around the perimeter but not very dark and not extending inward any deeper than the height of the lettering. MacArthur spent 5.5 years in Japan beginning with the occupation in 1945. His title was Supreme Commander For The Allied Powers but he pretty much ran the show. This button likely dates to his 1948 presidential hopeful effort while the following item dates from 1952. Only the second example we've seen of this rare button. The button retains full gloss and color and has only trivial and normal wear in reflected light. Rare.
