Item Description
Each is an unused 3.5x5.5" postcard captioned on the reverse "Color By H.F. Gardner." The vertical format card has paragraph of text on the back titled "Dr. Martin Luther King" and gives a brief summary of his civil rights activism. Final text on this card reads "This picture shows Dr. King enjoying a joke by comedian Joey Adams during AGVA benefit for SCLC for March on Washington." The related card is captioned on its front "Joey Adams, Dr. King." Signs in front of band members at the left read "Apollo Theater." Reverse has paragraph titled "Marching to Washington." with text describing scene as "This view shows comedian Joey Adams and his wife Cynthia with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his brother Rev. A.D. Williams King (pastor of the First Baptist Church, Ensley, Alabama, Birmingham). Dr. King had just presented Joey Adams with a plaque of appreciation for his untiring efforts for the AGVA benefit for the March on Washington, D.C." In both photos, and particularly on the first, the button we are offering as item #487 is prominently displayed on the lapel of King's suit coat. Second postcard has trivial tiny corner tip wear.
