Item Description
Shown in 1915 Playthings magazine being held by Amberg company owner. 12.75" tall. No hat was shown in Playthings picture so we assume doll was sold that way. Doll has painted compo head, compo hands, and cloth body with all original clothing. Company label sewn onto one jacket sleeve has text "Charlie Chaplin World's Greatest Comedies Made Exclusively By Louis Amberg & Son, N.Y. By Special Arrangement With Essanay Film Co." Chaplin only did Essanay films from 1913 to 1914. Composition head moves back and forth and legs are jointed so Charlie can be positioned seated. Some dust soil, paint flaking to head but compo remains intact. Compo on right hand has some crazing. Left hand has four chipped fingers. Clothing shows moderate aging overall. VG/Fine overall for this rare early doll.
