Auction #202 - Part II
Item numbers 1554 through 3213 in auction 202
Item Description
This is essentially a lifetime collection from a collector who so loved his subject and appreciated the scarcity of these badges that he sought and acquired every example he encountered. These 34 items include all the varieties that Hakes has seen at least since 1990 plus several which we are offering for the first time. These are row two #3 and row six #1-4. Row six #5 is the only example known to us and we sold it to this collector years ago. In order we have: Row #1: Six identical 2-sided cello discs with stickpins. One side reads "Peter Rabbit Childrens' Stories On Columbia Records" with Columbia/Grafonola logo on reverse. One has slight ripple, other five are essentially Mint. Row #2: 7/8" with four different newspaper names. "Chicago Evening American" (one with small dent to collet and one with tiny age traces), "The Deseret News" (one), "Peoria Journal" (two), "The Utica Observor" (one N. Mint, one with two tiny cracks barely showing). Row #3: "Wisconsin News Peter Rabbit Club" six identical 1" with three Exc. and three with slight wear. Row #4: Six 1.25" all reading "Bedtime Stories Club." Four are Exc. with W&H backpaper and two have faint stains and no backpaper. Row #5: Four 1.25" scarce variation of row #4 items all reading "The News' Bedtime Stories Club." Three with W&H backpaper and one without. Rusted collet on one, but all four have clean and glossy celluloid. Row #6: 1.25" with rare imprint "The Troy Record" plus W&H backpaper. Rare 7/8 " with green background and two rare 7/8" with blue background (one of these with rim stain). Two have W&H paper and the other clean blue one reads "At Your/Theatre/Screen Classics/Inc./Metro/Pictures." This has hairline 3/8" cello split on back. Last is only known example 1.5" with red text "1940/Nachman/Picnic/Silver Anniversary." N. Mint. 34 pieces in all. An exceptional group of scarce and rare Peter Rabbit items.
