Item Description
1-11/16" tall heavy bronze medal almost 1/8" thick shaped like the state's symbolic keystone. Front shows full figure of soldier holding aloft a rifle while at the background is a female figure holding aloft a liberty torch in one hand and bearing a shield in the other. Text at bottom reads 'We Pledge Our Lives/Our Fortunes And/Our Sacred Honor." Back of the piece on top edge reads "Honor For Duty Nobly Done" and this appears above images of ships with an eagle flying and holding an olive branch. Below this scene is the text "Presented By/The Pennsylvania Railroad Company/To C.A. Straub (hand engraved)/An Employe Of/The Pennsylvania System/Who Served With The Armed/Forces Of The United States/During The World War/April 6 - November 11 - 1917-1918." On bottom edge is name of the sculpture "U. Ellerhusen" along with the date of 1919. Unique and rare. Exc.
