Item Description
9x12" cardboard countertop standee display card contains complete amount of six nicely designed animated watches. Watches were produced by New Haven/Muros and this display is c. 1951. The chalkboard designed display has text at top "New Haven Animated Character Watches" and below this on the "blackboard" in simulated chalk is illustration of an archer, arrow through a heart and text "Buy 'Em From This Card." Below this are three inset circles featuring images of Annie Oakley, Dick Tracy and Junior, Gene Autry. Designed to hold six watches which were available individually for $6.95, bottom center has printed issue price. Reverse has cardboard easel which has a pair of 1" splits at bottom repaired by archival tape. Easel still assembles for upright display. Front of card has scattered margin wear and aging, thin 2.5" moisture streak at lower left corner. Top center has pair of tack holes. Display remains bright and clean, Fine. Each watch has 1.25" dia. chromed metal case, glow-in-the-dark hands and animated second hand action. Watches are described as they appear on the display. First is Dick Tracy, animated action is the pistol he holds in his hand. The narrow barrel is off the end of his gun so it looks like a snub-nosed revolver. Dial remains clean, case has near-full luster. Black leather replacement straps. Second watch is of Annie Oakley although her name which appears on the display does not appear on the watch itself. Animated feature is the gun she holds in one hand. Back of case has small scattered wear, rest of case has full bright luster, dial is bright and clean. Has replaced brown leather straps. Third watch is Texas Ranger and animated feature is gun he holds in one hand. Crystal has a tiny 1/8" scratch at top center, only noticeable upon close inspection. Lt. wear to case but near-full luster. W/magnification some minute scattered lines are visible on the dial, mostly white bkg., but dial remains bright and clean. Watch has original brown leather straps. Fourth watch is one of two different to feature Li'l Abner. Dial illustration is of him saluting an American flag which is the animated feature on this watch. Case has near-full luster, dial is bright and clean. Fifth watch is a totally different Li'l Abner design. This is portrait image of him looking at the animated feature which is a donkey's head. Near-full luster on case, dial is bright and clean. Both Abner watches have original brown leather straps. Final watch is of Gene Autry, animated feature is gun he holds in one hand. Reverse of case has incised text "Always Your Pal" plus his facsimile signature. Under magnification dial shows some scattered tiny surface bumps but under normal viewing, appearance remains totally bright and clean. Near-full luster to the case. Has replaced brown leather straps. Watches overall remain VF to Exc., all are running but not guaranteed to keep time over a 24-hour period. A truly impressive display piece.
