Item Description
While this has some small condition issues it is only our fifth seen over five decades and still displays very nicely. The example from the Hake Collection back in Auction #183 realized nearly $3000.00. This 1.25" portrait button shows her posing between stage curtains as if making her debut and, in fact, this button likely dates from the time of her first appearance in 1931. The button was made by Parisian Novelty and their name appears on the lower curl. Lower right front of the button includes copyright symbol and creators' name "Fleischer Studios." Cello surface has small scuff mark near the upper right edge about 1/16" deep and 5/16" long. This is largely on the yellow curtain area which darkened the color just a hair but is hardly noticeable. In addition there is a 1/16x1/16" cello flake off the top side edge of the button but showing on the front as just a narrow 1/16" long dark mark. Vast majority of the button displays clean and glossy. There are a number of other very tiny scuff marks on the left curtain but these just show a trifle in reflected light. We would grade the button as VG but appearance certainly remains VF. In view of its presentable condition and rarity the piece has a very conservative opening bid.
