Item Description
Formerly known as All- American Comics, the title became All- American Western with issue #103 and was now the home of western-themed stories. This issue’s cover, Johnny Thunder, had actually been the cover subject since before the title change. He was a school teacher who had a made a death bed promise to his mother to never resort to violence. However, his father, the sheriff, despised his son’s pacifistic demeanor and never passed up a chance to let him know it. In order to placate both of his parents, the shy school teacher created a new identity and did his dirty work under the name of Johnny Thunder. He was accompanied by his horse, Black Lightning. The horse was not named because of his color as he was actually very white, but because of a patch of black that graced his forehead. The title continued publishing western themes until issue #127 when it became All- American Men of War. Johnny Thunder, as solid a character as DC had at the time, moved over to the book known as All- Star Western, which at one time had been the home to the Justice Society of America. After a few years of playing second fiddle to that books’ cover character, The Trigger Twins, he eventually started to get a few covers. After a while, he took over all the covers and eventually his name was incorporated into the title. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 9.0 (VF/NM). According to the CGC Census, this is the second highest-graded copy they have seen.
