Item Description
No hero in the history of comics has ever captured the public’s interest the way that Superman has. From his very first appearance in the first issue of Action Comics, he entered directly into the American consciousness. That first appearance bolstered the fledgling medium of comics and provided the inspiration for thousands of other comic heroes. The mythology that surrounds Superman grew as he bean to appear in movies and on the radio. This issue was published at the beginning of a new decade for Superman. Radio and the movies had dramatically increased his powers, but the villains were still of an earthly variety. This issue’s cover features a couple of safecrackers who can’t seem to understand that Superman is invulnerable. It was earth-bound and realistic adventures like this one that helped inspire the TV Show. The bold cover art features a damsel in distress and one heavy looking pistol. The best thing about the cover is Superman’s grin as the thieves attempt to stop him; it's a classic Superman image. The art is a perfect reflection of the Superman of the times. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 8.5 (VF+). This is the second highest graded copy on their census. The book also features a back-up story with Tommy Tomorrow.
