Item numbers 1292-2528 in auction 183
Item Description
Fred Ray created a beautiful cover for this amazing book. The image of the three biggest heroes dropping in from the sky may look simplistic, but it is not. The skyline below the heroes adds a dimension that expands the image. Even today, it is still an exciting cover image. What a bargain this book was! Offering 100 pages for 15 cents, the title did not lie. The stories in this issue include The Batman, Superman, Crimson Avenger, Johnny thunder, The King, Young Dr. Davis, Zatara, Lando, Man of Magic, and Red, White and Blue. This is the beginning of Superman, Batman and Robin’s long run of gracing the covers of this title. The title changed to World’s Finest with issue #2 and continued for 323 issues until it was canceled in 1986. This issue was the sixth time that DC had published a comic book in a large annual format. It has a cardboard cover and the inside front cover is blank. Writers in this issue include Siegel, Fox, and Finger. Artists featured include Flessel, Lampert, Gustavson, Purcell and Kane. The pages are off-white. The book is CGC-certified 6.5 (FN+).
