Item Description
Quarterly publications are each 5-3/8x8.5" with an average page count of 68. The group runs between vol 2 #1 1961 and vol 24 #4 1974. From this run only five issues are missing: vol 11 #2 and #3, vol 12 #4, vol 18 #3, and vol 19 #4. A number of issues have inserts including yearly index, party and outing announcements, new publications available, etc. Published by The Baker Street Irregulars New York, NY. Trace of lt. cover dust soil but overall group is VF/Exc. Comes with 5.5x8.5" "Conclave And Dinner In Honour Of Mr. Sherlock Holmes" four page menu for event held January 5, 1962 in NYC. Front cover has original attendee's name "James Anderson" in ink at top and inside front cover menu area has notes in blue ballpoint pen. Right side edge of front cover is a bit tanned. Fine. The Baker Street Journal continues to be the leading Sherlockian publication since its founding in 1946 by Edgar W. Smith. With both serious scholarship and articles that "play the game" the Journal is essential reading for anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Extremely limited distribution and low print run. Extremely well-done and great for research. See #1665 Sherlock Holmes item.
