Item Description
c. 1884. Eisenmann Photographer New York City photo is 4.25x6.5" showing seven sisters with extremely long hair along with their father. Reverse side has printed text naming all the sisters along with hair length ranging from 3' to 6'. Text includes "H. Bailey, Manager. Sutherland Sister's Hair Grower Will Grow Hair; Will Stop Hair Falling Out." with March 2, 1884 endorsement by J.B. Duff, M.D., chemist. Card has bit of wear around edges and reverse side has dust soil and is lightly but evenly tanned. VF appearance overall. The girls and a son became a traveling family singing act noted for the long hair they sported and at some point began traveling with Barnum & Bailey's show. Daughter Naomi married J. Henry Bailey in 1885 and he registered a label for a hair restorer in 1883 and registered labels for both a hair grower and scalp cleaner in 1886. The hair products were still being advertised in the early 1930s. A superb cabinet photo with an interesting history.
