Item Description
c. mid-1930s. 3.25x4.75" tin litho base with different character art on all panels featuring Wimpy, Olive Oyl, and scene of Alice the Goon punching the Sea Hag while holding Swee' Pea. Overall height is 9.5" when Popeye figure is placed in action position by means of wire rod emerging from roof. Built-in key. When wound, Popeye dances while Olive rocks from side to side while seated on "Dynamite Danger" "box". First we've seen of this variation. Usually box is marked "Spinach". Roof has scattered trace of bare metal showing where Olive's feet rub. Popeye and Olive figures as well as base sides have a few scattered paint scratches/nicks. Underside has small Marx logo. Fine, working example. Colorful and imaginative toy by Marx.
