Item Description
©1935 King Features Syndicate Inc. Made by New Haven Clock Co. 2-3/8x4.75x1” deep cardboard box has nice top lid graphics with Popeye sitting at restaurant looking at wrist watch saying “Yam Always On Time Since I Got This Yere Watch” as Ham Gravy says “In Time For Some Spinach.” Art is signed at lower left by creator Segar. Three side panels have additional images of Popeye along with Wimpy, Olive Oyl and Castor Oyl. Box is loose from back hinge so lid now lifts off rather than being attached. Aging with two pinpoint puncture marks not affecting art. Corners tight. Fine. Die-cut cardboard insert (split but complete) holds watch with original leather band. Watch band has some lt. wear. 1-1/8x1.25” chrome accent metal case. Has nice image on dial of Popeye walking with his arms for watch hands. Bkg. includes characters Wimpy, Olive Oyl, Ham Gravy and others. Bright luster on case. Bright, clean dial. Works. Exc. Wonderful graphics. A rare watch with even rarer box. Only the second boxed example we’ve offered in over 45 years.
