Auction #203 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1428 in auction 203
Item Description
1930s. 5" long highly detailed car designed to resemble real 1930s car is mounted on 4x7x.75" green marble base with felt on underside. Car has trace of lt. oxidation on left side, o/w overall Exc. The Stout Scarab was a 1930s US automobile made by Stout Motorcar Company of Detroit and is considered the world's first production minivan. The experimental prototype of the Scarab became the world's first car with a fiberglass body shell. The Scarab offered a more spacious interior than any American car and passengers entered through single large door into a flexible seating system that could be configured in different ways. Design elements included a stylized ancient Egyptian Scarab motif. First prototype was completed in 1932 and the second in 1935. A total of nine units were produced for sale. A third Scarab was produced in 1946, still equipped with a rear engine but never went into production. Wonderful futuristic, aerodynamic design and high quality paperweight. First we've seen in our 45 years.
