Item Description
This copy is part of the Edgar Church (Mile High) Collection. The painted covers that were created for this title are among some of the best looking covers of the Golden Age. The covers were often filled with soldiers ready to go into battle. For this striking cover, artist Harvey Fuller takes the brutality and ugliness of the war right into the readers face. A steely-eyed soldier stares directly into the face of the enemy as he lets loose with a magnificent burst of flame. The most horrific part is the image in the left corner. An unidentified soldier lies dead in the sand with his helmet in front of him. His hand clearly shows a bullet hole. Fuller leaves nothing to the imagination. By the time this cover hit the newsstand, America had been at war for four years. Nothing was shocking any more. The pages are white. The book is CGC-certified 9.4 (NM). According to the CGC census, this is the highest graded copy they have seen.
