Item Description
12.75x57-3/8" vintage wood frame has vintage mat with 7.25x51.5" opening revealing photo taken by "Fleischer Photo" Washington, DC. A multitude of men are shown in uniform and photo also includes white dog in front center, man in back row holding puppy and man in front row at far right holding puppy with sign "Reserve Mallet". Two men in center background are holding large "Reserve Mallet" banner with insignia. Photo shows men upon their return from WWI. Reserve Mallet was a group of Americans who drove trucks for the French army, transporting ammunition, supplies and cannons to front lines and even transported tanks to front lines as well. One can see from the hundreds of smiling faces they were happy to be home. Back of photo has hand written index card in ink from Ruth Janssen who has placed arrow at upper left where her father was sitting. She believes photo was taken in the New York area by the DC photographer and also states "I Do Know My Father Drove A Supply Truck...Probably Because He Was One Of The Few People In Those Days Who Knew How To Drive A Vehicle". Frame has some surface scuffs on front, still Fine. Mat is lightly but evenly tanned. Photo has barely noticeable tiny dent at left side image area and emulsion has yellowed with age causing lt. fade to photo. Photo itself is still Fine. Historic item, ready for display. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
