Auction #203 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1428 in auction 203
Item Description
38mm (1.5") thick and heavy pewter rim holds glass over steel engraving style paper portrait with his name above and on the reverse a mirror. The concept and rim construction matches DeWitt/Sullivan John Q. Adams 1828-3. The portrait has minor tan tone on his hair and on the fabric accent at his neck. The pewter has numerous but very tiny indents on the upper most raised edge front and back. A tiny loop is gone from the top side edge. The mirror has many pinpoints of silver loss but quite minor overall as over 95% of the silvering remains intact. Along with a snuffbox or two, this is likely the earliest non-medallic Jackson item to picture him. A great rarity recognized by its $7000 guide value in Hake's 2004 Revised Prices and a very conservative opening bid on one of the best Jackson pieces known.
