Item Description
7x9-3/8" typewritten letter on "Federal Bureau of Investigation" letterhead is dated September 16, 1939 and addressed to "Mr. Harry McLaughlin The York-High Weekly". Hoover acknowledges letter of Sept. 6 "In Which You Request Information Concerning Things That The High School Student Can Do To Help Keep America Neutral During The Present International Situation. I Regret That I Cannot Comment On This. However, It Has Always Been My Firm Belief That Respect For Law And Authority And For The Rights Of Others Is The Basis For Good Citizenship". Letter is signed in blue fountain pen ink "J. E. Hoover". Three corners are missing small bits of paper from album removal, letter has horizontal fold through center as mailed and top and lower right of right side have a few tanned glue stains from being placed in album.
