Item Description
This issue contains one of the single most important panels in Spider-Man’s long history. Aunt May has been trying to set Peter Parker up with the niece of one of her friends in the neighborhood, but the meeting between the two never goes as planned. In addition, Peter has been actively avoiding this meeting. Out of love for Aunt May, he finally agrees to go to dinner at the home of Mrs. Parker. When Mary Jane appears at the door, Peter is flabbergasted. In the last panel, Mary Jane utters one of the most memorable phrases ever to appear in a Spider-man comic, “Face it Tiger...You just hit the jackpot”. With that, months of speculation ended as readers were finally given the first full look at Mary Jane Watson. Even with that historical footnote, the issue still delivers a truck-load of action. Spider-Man is having the difficulty of his life facing down his newest adversary, the Rhino. In addition, J. Jonah Jameson’s son, John Jameson, has developed new powers. This unforeseen event seems to have been sparked by his exposure to space spores. There is also a quick appearance by a character from Daredevil, Foggy Nelson; he is defense attorney for the Rhino.
The story is by Stan Lee and both the cover art and the interior is by John Romita. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified 9.0 (VF/NM).
