1.25". No backpaper. The left and upper extreme edge of the button has light line of tan stain but it still displays quite nicely. In addition, though not in our photo, the item comes with a brass frame which affixes to the button by four tabs and which covers almost all of the edge stain except for two very tiny and light marks at the far left which are barely visible at all.
